Two days before the Pac-12 Tournament begins, the usual season ending awards were announced. And for the Cal men’s basketball team, this year had no shortage of accolades.
The biggest honors went to forward Jaylen Brown, who was announced as the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year on Monday. He is the eighth Cal men’s basketball player to have ever received this honor.
Brown was also the only Bear and the only freshman selected to the All-Pac-12 first team earlier in the day. In his inaugural season at Cal, Brown notched a team-leading 15.3 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per game.
Other honors for the Bears this year included fellow freshman forward Ivan Rabb being selected to the All-Pac-12 second team and senior guard Tyrone Wallace was an honorable mention selection, as well.
As a team, Cal remained in the top-25 after going 1-1 against the Arizona schools on the road over the weekend. The Bears moved up a spot to No. 24 and will await their first game of the Pac-12 Tournament on Thursday, after receiving the third seed in the tournament and a bye. Cal will face the winner of Oregon State vs. Arizona State.
