Despite everything that the Cal men’s basketball program has been through and is currently experiencing, the first good note in a long time has come.

On Monday, Jordan Cornish announced that he will be transferring from University of Nevada, Las Vegas, to the Bears. Cornish completed his sophomore season this year, leading the Rebels to a record of 18-15, 8-10 Mountain West Conference. The squad had just welcomed a new head coach, Chris Beard, earlier this month.

Cornish, a 6-foot-6-inch guard, averaged 6.2 points per game last season and shot 35.4 percent. The sophomore averaged 21.6 minutes per game.

The transfer signals that Cal men’s basketball head coach Cuonzo Martin will most likely be staying with the program. Cornish had originally committed and signed with Tennessee when he was being recruited in high school, but when Martin left the school before Cornish’s time there could begin, Cornish also left the program.

Cornish will help bolster Cal at guard, with senior Tyrone Wallace leaving the team.
