Cal men’s basketball senior point guard Tyrone Wallace suffered a fractured bone in his right hand Wednesday and will not play in Friday’s game. The senior is expected to miss three-five weeks, effectively ending any chance of him playing in the NCAA Tournament and ending his playing career as a Bear. The team is set to face Hawaii on Friday in Spokane, Washington at 11 a.m. PT.
Wallace suffered a wrist injury in the same hand earlier this season and was forced to miss five games. Junior guard Sam Singer took over in his absence, guiding the team to a 3-2 record in Wallace’s absence.
Wallace is the team’s leading scorer, averaging 15.3 points per game, and he leads the team in assists per game with 4.4.
Being without the veteran guard could spell trouble for the Bears. Not having the most experienced player on the team and the only player who has ever had real experience in the tournament, is a cause for concern. Wallace also had 26 points in Cal’s loss to Utah in the Pac-12 Tournament, having a huge impact in the game.
